Initial Setup

Before scrubbing your first submission file, there are a couple of one-time setup items that need to be addressed.

Setting up user accounts

When you licensed ClaimStaker, an administrative user account was created for your practice. This administrative user is responsible for setting up additional user accounts and for assigning proper security levels to those accounts. This grants each person access to the specific areas of ClaimStaker appropriate to his or her role in the claim scrubbing process. If needed, the administrative user account can be used to process files as well.

If you have multiple staff members who will be accessing ClaimStaker and you are an administrative user, log in to the Alpha II Software Solutions web page, select the User Maintenance link from the Alpha II Application Selection page, and click the Help - F1 link or press the F1 key on your keyboard for a complete explanation of the security and user maintenance routines. (The User Maintenance option on the Application Selection page will only be visible if you have been set up as the administrative user for your practice.)

Setting up geographic regions

ClaimStaker allows for the use of multiple geographic regions for organizations that have facilities in multiple locations. This provides ClaimStaker with the ability to apply specific calculations needed for the relative value unit (RVU) sequencing edits and ensures all charges subject to multiple procedure rules are sequenced for the highest reimbursement. It also allows ClaimStaker to determine which Local Coverage Determination (LCD) policies database to use for medical necessity edits. Go to the Medicare Geographic Region Maintenance page for an explanation of how to use geographic regions.
